How it is that “skating on thin ice” can get us into “hot water”?
We do have some funny sayings don’t we?
Fact is, we are all skating on thin ice. Or at least some of us were.
Before a person receives the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour, they are “skating on thin ice”. Every day is a day closer to “cracking”, a day closer to eternity, a day closer to the final judgment…
“...ye shall blow an alarm...” - Numbers 10:9
Do you have an alarm on your house?
We don’t. Mainly because we live in a very quiet neighbourhood and a fairly peaceful country. If things changed we would get an alarm... on our physical house. But what about our spiritual houses?
“And David went out withersoever Saul sent him and behaved himself wisely:” - 1 Samuel 18:1
I think the way David acted in 1 Samuel 18 - when everything was going well – would affect the way he acted throughout the rest of 1 Samuel – when things went sour!
David behaved wisely.
We ought to be known for “behaving ourselves wisely.”
“And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: ” - Hebrews 10:24
We usually think of the word “provoke” in the negative sense of “to make angry”, but it has a positive sense, “to move, or to stir up” in a good way! I think the following story gives a great illustration of Mums – who are faithfully encouraging, stirring up their children in good ways... even if it’s a bit too “stirring” at times!
