“The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold:

but the LORD trieth the hearts.”

Proverbs 17:3

This verse is telling us that most things of value go through a process before they are of any use.

A fining pot, the term means “crucible”, is used for silver to get the impurities out of it… but the LORD trieth the hearts.

“…he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

1 Peter 2.6

That word “confounded” has to do with being “shamed” or “disgraced”.

The difficulty for people who are not sure about what they really believe is the confusion and insecurity they choose to live with.

“…but his hand is stretched out still.”

Isaiah 5:25

Every time I read this phrase as it appears in the Book of Isaiah, some five times, I am touched that the hand of the Lord is stretched out still!

It makes me think of God’s love to us, that in His love He continues to reach out to us…

That is NOT what THAT PHRASE, in the Book of Isaiah, is talking about – AT ALL!

“… peace… quietness and assurance for ever.”

Isaiah 32.17

That sounds good, “peace… quiet”... in fact - that sounds great!

We often think, “Peace and quiet… ahh!”

Hang on, there’s more, there is the other word, “assurance” – that’s great too.  We can have the assurance that everything will be peace and quiet and that everything will work out for the best!
