Being Good doesn't get you to Heaven

But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you” - Hebrews 6.9

In the above verse the Lord is speaking to people who claimed to be born again Christians.  These people were also Jewish/Hebrews, hence the name of the book.  They were sometimes confused because they felt they were getting to heaven because they were “good Jews”.

But... NOBODY is going to heaven because they are a “good” anything!

Scriptures give hope.

...that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. - Romans 15.4

The whole verse is this: “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.”

Have you seen Him?

“That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;” - 1 John 1.1

The Apostle John once again gives us some pretty incredible thoughts here:  He had the amazing opportunity to KNOW the Lord Jesus while our Lord was on this earth!  He knew the living, breathing Jesus in the flesh.

He never really got “over it”... I think maybe he decided he would never get “over it”.

Go to the ant

Go to the ant...” - Proverbs 6.6

In Proverbs 30:25 we read this, “The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer;”.

It has been said that there are some 1 quadrillion ants in the world!

Here is what that number would look like:

10,000,000,000,000,000

So, some 1 quadrillion ants in the world, and all of them preparing for Winter, as the above verse leads us to believe - “ants... prepare their meat in the summer”.

Be servant of all

And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. ” Mark 10.44

“How do you know if you are a servant...?  By how you react when someone treats you like one!”

I’m not sure who said it, but that is very true!

I remember a few times I didn’t like the way someone was treating me!  They were probably treating me like “some sort of servant”.

Resist the Devil

“Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” - James 5.7

That is one of the greatest promises to the born again Christian!

Sure, it is not always easy to do – but what a PROMISE!

“Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

I find it interesting that the verse DOES NOT SAY, “Resist the devil, and he will flee.”  It is very important that the verse DOES NOT SAY THAT!

What is a “closet” to you?

“But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet,” - Matthew 6.6

What is a “closet” to you?

Depending on where a person comes from, in the world, a “closet” can be different places.

To me, coming from South Dakota, USA, a closet is the cupboard/little room by the front door of the house where all the winter coats, boots, scarves, hats etc. are stored.  I don’t think I have ever prayed in one of those “closets”!

Our God is Holy

“...to make a separation between the sanctuary and the profane”  - Ezekiel 42.20

Our God is Holy.

The above verse is talking about the future Temple and how God makes a clear, separation between the sanctuary and the profane”, between the holy and the common, between the clean and the unclean.

Are We Wise?

“If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.” - Proverbs 29.9

Do we ever feel like we are just not getting anywhere with someone?

Do we think that for all we may say – there is just no response?

Whose tomb is... empty?

...but the righteous hath hope in his death.” - Proverbs 14.32

Whose tomb is... empty?

The above verse says, “The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.”

It’s the last part of the verse that always strikes me: “but the righteous hath hope in his death.”

Man was not created to die.
