Unto you that hear...

“…unto you that hear shall more be given.”

Mark 4.24

“…unto you that hear…”

This is a very interesting statement.  For those of us who are listening…

Listening to what?

There have been times when I have tried to study while an exercise class was going on in the Hall, next to the office, here at the church/community centre – I can hardly think -  much less hear!

As I write this the neighbours have some men working on the roof next to my study here at home.  They are listening to something – and letting me listen too!  Or maybe “feel” would be more accurate – boom, boom, boom, boom, boom… you get the picture.

“…unto you that hear…”

Jesus is speaking to His disciples, “And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.”

What are we listening to… are we really hearing the things that are good and profitable and helpful?  Things that instruct and correct and even, reprove us?  And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvationthrough faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” (2 Timothy 3:15-16)

Yes, we should be careful what we listen to and make sure we hear a lot of good things!  Good things from good sources.  Good conversation.  Good music.  Good words, thoughts and prayers from the Bible! The more of the good things we hear, the more the Lord will give us to hear!

Run with patience,

Pastor
