Thou Canst Not Follow Me

“Jesus answered him,

Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now” - John 13:36

Think about that very carefully.  What is Jesus saying? “Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now;”

He is speaking to the disciples, specifically to Peter (indirectly to every born again believer) and He says, “Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now”

What if Jesus said, “Whither I go, thou canst not follow me.”

But Jesus said NOTHING OF THE SORT!  He said, “Whither I go, thou canst not follow me… now; but thou shalt follow me”

What is Jesus saying?  He is telling us we CAN follow Him.  In fact, we WILL follow Him!  Where?  To the grave… yes, but then… up from the grave!  “O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?” (1 Corinthians 15:55)

Has anyone, ever said anything like that the night before they died? “Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards.”  Hallelujah… what a Saviour!

Is Jesus your Saviour and your God?  He is the only one who could make such a… STATEMENT!  Such a… PROMISE!
