Shall Attain Unto Wise Counsels

Rock sea

“shall attain unto wise counsels:”

Proverbs 1.5

What does “shall attain” mean? The whole verse says, “A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:”.

The word attain basically means to buy. It gives us the idea that people will pay for good counsel… and yet, one of the greatest blessings we have, as being born-again Christians, is the access to good information/counsel and Jesus paid for it! By that I mean we have the best counsel and advice available in this world today and it’s free!

The best in this world, at our fingertips… The Bible!

But accessing it takes a wise man, woman or child – because, “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.” (Psalm 14.1) And the Author of the Bible is… God.

No God… No Bible, No Bible… No God… Foolish… Not wise…

So be wise… listen… learn something… have understanding… get something out of the Bible… attain to the most wise counsel in the world!

The song says it well, “The Bible stands like a rock undaunted through the raging storms of time. Its pages burn with the truth eternal and they glow with the light sublime.”
