If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man

Proverbs 29.9

Do we ever feel like we are just not getting anywhere with someone?

Do we think, that for all we may say – there is just no response?

Maybe we feel - we strongly feel - that we have tried everything we know.  We have been patient (2 Timothy 2.23-26) We have been kind (Ephesians 4.32).  We have shown the self-sacrificing love of Christ (John 13.35, 1 Corinthians 13.4- 8).  We have sought help from other born again believers in counsel and prayer (Galatians 6.2, Ephesians 6.18, Jude 23).  We have been upset, we have tried to see some sort of humour in the ridiculous, but it seems that - “…whether (we) rage or laugh, there is no rest.”

“If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man,

whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.”

Look, let’s be honest now and call it for what it is.  Though we would not make proud claims to being “wise”, by the grace of God, and in humility, we are wise when we seek to do things God’s way, the Bible way!  So then - call it for what it is and… “Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge.” (Proverbs 14.7)  In other words, continue to be kind, prayerful, loving and hopeful but remove yourself form people who have chosen not to serve the Lord. (Joshua 24.15, Amos 3.3)  Because, if we don’t… “there is no rest.”
