I Have Sinned Greatly.

“David said unto God, I have sinned greatly... I have done very foolishly.” - 1 Chronicles 21.8

In the above passage we find King David needing to take full responsibility for God’s judgment which was falling on his kingdom, the nation of Israel.

He was the king, the leader, and he confessed, “I have done very foolishly” by numbering the people when God had told him not to.

Thank the Lord for the Bible!

“For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.”

And, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:  (Romans 15.4, 2 Timothy 3.16)

God gives us help, examples and guidance –  God gives us a plan to keep us from the troublebefore it comes, OR to get out of the trouble when it comes... though there are still consequences for sin!

Back to David…

“And the LORD commanded the angel; and he put up his sword again into the sheath thereof.  At that time when David saw that the LORD had answered him... ” (1 Chronicles 21.27-28)  “…that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.”

May we learn from it… and not repeat it!

Run with patience,

Pastor
