How amiable are thy tabernacles

“How amiable are thy tabernacles, O LORD of hosts!”

(Psalms 84:1)

That’s not a word we use every day!  In fact, I’m not sure I have ever used that word.

“Amiable”.  It means loved or beloved.

The word “tabernacles” here can mean anything like a tent or shepherd’s hut (left), but specifically the Tabernacle or Temple (right).

The writer of this Psalm was saying that he loves the places where God is.  Those places where God has chosen to dwell and to meet with His people arebeloved of him!

“How amiable are thy tabernacles, O LORD of hosts!

My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD:

my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.”

Our God is a God worth loving!  He is the living God!  And like the Psalmist here – we too can love those places where He dwells, those places where He chooses to meet with us!  Have you walked with the Lord in some quiet place recently?  It is a place to love!  Do you have a church where God is welcome and His Word is preached?  It is a place to love!  Be like this Psalmist – pray like this Psalmist!

“My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD:

my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.”

Run with patience!
