“when he came to himself, he said… I perish with hunger!"

Luke 15.17

"And when he came to himself".

There are some crucial points in this story that we would do well to examine.

First the phrase about coming to himself, indicates that this young man was not in his right mind.

Sin will do that to a person.  Sin makes us think that we are normal, that there is not a problem; however much we are deluded, not in our right mind.  Remember the man in the "tombs"?  When he experiences "grace" he is found clothed and in his right mind. (Mark 5.15)

The second point in this story is that he remembers some things about the "fathers house".

There is help, food and comfort there for those who abide in that house. This reminds me that God has enough for me and all who will come to him. God has enough and then has some to spare!

The third point is that this young man sees himself in the light of reality.

He was hungry!  Not only was there physical hunger for want of food but there was spiritual hunger because of a severed relationship.

It is possible that some unsaved person may read this; if so, know that there is enough in God the Father’s house.  Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved.

It is possible that someone who has gone away from the Lord, may read this devotion. You may have walked away from God and your promises to God; know that God waits for you to return.  Repent, change directions, go toward God and you will discover that God has enough.  (adapted from Pastor JD Strain)
