“nevertheless at thy word I will”

Luke 5.5

How much faith does it take to obey?

Not much.

In the verse above, Peter didn’t really believe that they were going to catch any fish… “Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing”.

Those were the facts.  That’s what he had seen – NO FISH!

Peter couldn’t see that they would catch anything, but he went ahead and say, “nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.”

We may not have much faith, and the facts may challenge what little faith we have!

But… how much faith does it take to obey?

Not much.

This faith is not “blind” faith, rather it is us exercising our choice personal, intelligent, rational decision to trust the Lord.

Just enough faith to choose to obey…

Jesus said, “Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.” Luke 5:4-6

The point is: Obedience and faith go together. If the Lord commands us to do something and we doubt Him?  Well, go ahead and obey Him anyway.  Peter obeyed and God blessed him AND his friends.  The same principle works for you and me.  We and our friends can have God’s blessing by our choice to simply… obey.
