“As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.”

Proverbs 25.25

It’s true to say, “There’s not much good news these days!”

Isn’t it amazing that a world living in rejection and denial of its Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, has very little to actually talk about – and what does “make the news” are often the worst of things?

Not so for the born again Christian!  Because we have received the “Good News” – the Gospel!  The BEST news!  We have a LOT of good to talk about!

And it is ALL “GOOD NEWS”!  (Even being told that we all are sinners is... GOOD NEWS!  It explains so much e.g. no wonder the world is a mess, where can we get help, why are things so confusing sometimes etc.)

The thought of good news reminds me of the parable of Jesus - “Then began he to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen, and went into a far country for a long time...” (Luke 20.9) So yes, that is a bit sad, the Lord has “gone”...

Jesus did say - “I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.”  (John 14.2b-3)  Ah yes – but there is the good news!

The good news from that “far country”... is that Jesus is ready... and waiting... to COME AGAIN!  And like Abraham and Sarah, we are “sojourning... in a strange country” and we look for that “city... whose builder and maker is God”! “ (Hebrews 11.9-10)

The question is – are we looking for that “city”, or entangled with the affairs of this life?  One will be faith, (Hebrews 11) and one will be displeasing to our Lord and Saviour.  (2 Timothy 2.1-4)

As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.
